Happy International Women's Day! Or: Women, Keep writing/editing/submitting and reviewing!

More numbers at VIDA's The Count

What are you doing for International Women’s Day today? I’m doing three things: celebrating women writers, lamenting the state of publishing in America and calling both women and men to action.

At AWP, I attended Women Write Books @ Women Made Art Gallery: A Conversation and Celebration Hosted by Six Prominent Women’s Literary Organizations:

I celebrate the fact that these organizations, and others, exist:

I lament that women account for a little over 50% of the population in the USA and that is not represented in the number of women published, reviewed or reviewing in top publications, according to VIDA’s (amazing) Count.

I call you to action to help even the playing field. If you are a woman writer, submit your work (individual pieces and manuscripts) and review books by women writers. If you are an editor (male or female), look for strong writing by women, both to publish and review.

What other resources or suggestions would you add?
