I'm very excited to be celebrating National Poetry Month with you this year. I'll be hosting guest authors on poetry and giving some readings, too. Read through previous National Poetry Month posts here. Stay tuned all month!
The Academy of American Poets, who began this celebration in 1996, shares 30 ways to celebrate poetry this month (and, of course, any time of year) on their website. April 18th is Poem in your Pocket Day.
I encourage you to read, write and celebrate poetry throughout the month. Maybe start with some audio recordings of contemporary, emerging poets on Fishouse? Or listen to a podcast from Poetry Magazine? The Poetry Foundation has some great resources for poetry for children. You might try writing a poem a day with the Writer's Digest PAD Challenge.
For a list of readings and events in the D.C. area, check out the Beltway Poetry Review's Poetry News or events at the Library of Congress.
